東洋初のロボット「学天則（がくてんそく）」を復元 大阪市立科学館で７月から公開 （動画）

◆大阪市立科学館が2007年４月から進めていた東洋初のロボット「学天則（がくてんそく）」の復元作業が終わり、08年４月24日、製作を協力したジオラマ製作のディグ本社工場 （大阪市西区） で公開されました。
　７月にリニューアルオープンする科学館の１階に展示されます。





　復元された学天則は、全高3.2mという巨大なロボットです。
　記録台と呼ばれる机に向かう形で立っており、マイコン制御されたエアシリンダで手を動かしたり、顔を右左に振ったり、目も閉じたり開けたりすることができます。
　眼球を左右に動かすこともでき、ほほや胸は膨らませることができます。

　1928（昭和３）年に大阪毎日新聞社の論説顧問だった西村真琴博士が、大阪で製作しました。
　人造人間を目指していたと言われるとおり、後年の鉄腕アトムなどにも通じる人のような形と動作を実現したようです。

　「ロボット」という言葉は、1920年にカレル・チャペックという人が書いた戯曲の中でを初めて用いられました。そのわずか８年後に、すでに大阪でロボットが完成していたのですから驚きです。

◆復元された学天則は、昔と同じように圧縮された空気で動きますが、コンピューターで制御されているのが新しいところです。
　オルゴールのように突起のある円筒を回転させ、突起がゴム管内の空気を制御して、動きを操作していました。突起の配列が動作のためのプログラミングになっています。

　今はゴム管の代わりに金属製のシリンダーを使用したり、制御をコンピューターに置き換えるなどしていますが、原理は当時のままです。
　顔はFRPで作られています。
　「表情を作るなどが難しかった」ようです。

　こうした外観や動作は、すべて昔に書かれた書籍や新聞記事などを頼りにしたそうです。昭和６年に発行された「科学知識」（財団法人科学知識普及会）の６月号に、開発の経緯などが詳しく書かれていました。
　掲載されていた写真には開発者の西村博士たち人と一緒に写っていましたから、そこから大きさを推測しました。

◆大阪市立科学館は７月にリニューアルオープンしますが、来館する子どもたちに、不思議を体験してもらいたいと、今まで1992年に製作した模型の学天則に代わって１階に展示して動かします。

　同館の渡部義弥主任学芸員は「もの作りに勇気を持ってもらい、子どもたちには大阪にはかつて、こんなロボットを作った人がいたことを知ってもらうことで夢を与えたい」と、話していました。
